Jean and Alan at the 1864 Virginia City Ball

Alan and his wife Jean, both native Montanans, have lived in rural Musseshell County since 1987. There they have raised their 3 children and now have 3 grand children.

Alan first ran for elected office in 1990 and was elected to the Roundup School Board. He served 10 years on the board, 5 years as Chairman. While serving on the Roundup School board he was elected to the Board of Directors of the Montana School Boards Association and later served as President.

While active on education issues Alan also participated in local Republican politics serving as Chairman of the Musselshell County Republican Central Committee and later four years as a member of the executive board of the Montana Republican Party.

Alan served on the local 4-H council as a past president, Chief of the Bull Mountain Fire Department and Chairman of the Musselshell County Weed Control Board. He also served on the board of directors of the Snowy Mountain Development Corporation.

Having worked in the oil and gas industry for the last 30 years Alan knows the positive impacts responsible resource development can bring to Montana. Alan has worked hard to ensure the development of the Bull Mountain Coal project and it is now the largest private employer in Musselshell County. He has also worked with wind energy developers, oil and gas, and various generation and transmission developers to bring good paying jobs and prosperity to rural Montana.

"As Chairman of the House Energy and Telecommunications Committee the first question I ask on energy legislation is; "What will be the impact to the rate payer?" Providing reliable, safe, low cost utilities for the people of Montana will be my goal as your Public Service Commissioner. I would appreciate your vote and support."

"A little Humor"

Dear God we pray in this dark Hour

please send us cheap electric power

and we swear to attend daily mass

if you add low cost natural gas.

Lord, please accept our deep contrition

for lusting after competition.

From the markets terrors set us free,

Bring back our beloved monopoly.

To foster a strong economy in Montana we must be supportive of all potential opportunities. Small manufacturing, timber and logging, and education add considerable wealth to Montana and her people.

Agriculture continues to be Montana’s #1 industry. From dry land grains and livestock, to our irrigated crop lands, agriculture is still Montana’s base.

The oil and gas industry has contributed greatly to Montana’s economy especially the current budget surpluses. Montana is rich in energy potential.

New on the energy horizon is wind energy. Montana has some of the best wind energy potential in the world. With the Judith Gap project as a start we will continue to work with developers.

Montana has a rich mining heritage. From the coal mines in the east to the hard rock mines in the west the mining industry provides some of the best paying jobs in the state.
